Alfred Lee Davis

November 21, 1946 — January 14, 2024

Alfred L. Davis, (Al) of Needville, Texas, passed away at home on Sunday, January 14, 2024.  He is now gloriously walking with Jesus on those streets of gold that he often dreamed, talked and sung about and was so looking forward to.  As promised in God’s word, the Holy Bible, Al is truly healed from head to toe from his lengthy sickness and paraplegia of 39 years.

He was born to Orville T. Davis and Sallie Davis on November 21, 1946, in New Gulf, Texas.  He grew up in Van Vleck, Texas and attended the Van Vleck Schools.  Shortly thereafter, Al married the loved of his life, Linda Magee in 1966.  They remained in the Van Vleck area as he worked with his father drilling water wells.

Al was a very determined man and did his very best in everything he attempted to do.  In his younger years he developed an interest in the oil and gas industry which he was involved in until his passing.  He was very knowledgeable of the history of the Boling Dome and former Texas Gulf Sulphur in New Gulf.  He was always ready to offer his expertise to anyone who had an interest in the Boling Dome history.  This included any new RRC field inspectors and helping them with their questions.  He really took pride in the well plats and logs given to him long ago by Texas Gulf Sulphur.

Al also loved to play the steel guitar and the piano.  He enjoyed singing gospel and would compose gospel songs as he went along singing them.  He always had the complete attention of his two fur babies, Millie and Mollie, when he was playing and singing.  They loved to always sit in the chair by the piano and “sing” along with their dad.  They were so much comfort to him and helped pass the day.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Magee Davis; two daughters, Dr. Jennifer K. Davis-Lewis and Kimberly L. Davis; one granddaughter, Julianna K. Lewis, 2 grandsons, Taylor P. Jacobs, and Blake C. Jacobs; one brother, Leon E. Davis, 2 sisters, Betty Teeler and Mary Ann Wells. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were parents, OT and Sallie Davis, brothers, Tommy L. Davis, Jimmy Davis, Walter Davis, Curtis Davis, and Billy Davis.

Memorial Service will be held at Wharton Funeral Home on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Marvin Moore officiating.  Graveside services will follow at RoseLawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.
