Taylor Legare Jones

August 10, 1939 – November  3, 2023

Taylor Jones, 84, of Houston passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023,  in a Spring Texas nursing center following a lengthy illness.  He was born on August 10, 1939, in Wharton, Texas to the late John Thomas and Mary Virginia Hudgins Jones.

Taylor was raised in the Wharton area and graduated from Wharton High School in 1957. He continued his education at Rice University, where he was a track speedster winning several medals for both the 440 yard dash and 220yard dash. He graduated in 1961 with a bachelors’ degree in mechanical engineering. He married Mary Kathryn Harper, and they were married for 44 years until her death on Decmeber 7, 2006. Taylor went on to work in the oil and gas industry where he holds several patents for his designs of gate valves. Taylor loved European cars, especially Alfa Romeos and Fiats. At any given time, he was in the midst of working on one of these cars in his garage.

Taylor will be missed by his daughters, Kimberly Kidwell and husband, Brian of The Woodlands, and Cynthia Stranger and husband, Charles of Houston, brothers, John Thomas Jones, Jr. and wife, Sidney and Clyde Jones and wife, Sandra, and his grandson, Ethan Kidwell.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11 am at Wharton Cemetery in Wharton.
