Stephen Reed Moers

Stephen Reed Moers, 66, of Wharton, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, September 16, 2026.

Stephen was born on January 14, 1960, in Houston to Johanna Yvonne Singleton East and the late Edward August Moers. He was raised in Wharton, where he graduated from Wharton High School. He later attended welding classes at Wharton County Junior College and spent much of his working life in the agriculture industry as a welder and fabricator for a local grass farm.

On August 15, 1981, Stephen married the love of his life, Lisa Kubena. This year, they celebrated 45 years of marriage—a testament to the love, devotion, and life they built together.

Stephen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in being there for the people he loved. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and never hesitated to do whatever he could for someone in need. Those who knew Stephen knew they could count on him.

He was a strong man of faith who found happiness in the simple things—spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. More than anything, he loved being surrounded by the people he cared about. They held a very special place in his heart, and the memories they made together will be treasured forever.

Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Edward August Moers, and his stepfather, Vernon East, who helped raise him.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Lisa Moers of Wharton; daughter, Elaine H. Moers of Wharton; sons, Eric A. Moers and wife, Shaunessee, of College Station, and Edward Reed Moers of Wharton; mother, Johanna East; siblings, Cheryl East LaVergne of Wharton, Julie Moers Steiner and husband, Randall, of Wharton, Gregory Jay East and wife, Ana, of Kingwood, and Brian Michael East and wife, Heather, of Beaumont; and his beloved granddaughters , Addison and Charlotte Moers.

Stephen leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, laughter, and stories that will be carried on by the people who knew and loved him. Though his passing was unexpected, the impact he made on his family and those around him will remain for generations to come. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026, at College Heights Baptist Church (1515 Briar Ln, Wharton Tx). Services will start at 2pm and a reception will follow.
