Shirley Wittig

Shirley Wittig, 74, of Wharton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at a Victoria hospital following a brief illness.  She was born on April 4, 1949, in Seguin, Texas to the late Berthold and Wanda Wesch Zunker.

 

Shirley was raised in the Marion area and attended schools in Marion , graduating from Marion High School with the class of 1967. She married Leroy Wittig on April 18, 1970 in Seguin. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2008. She was a homemaker for most of her life. Shirley enjoyed reading everyday, watching her family grow, spending as much time with her grandchildren as possible. She was also active in her church, St John Lutheran in Wharton where she served on the Ladies Aide for many years.

 

Shirley will be missed by her daughter, Janice White and husband, Alan of Rockwall, son, Nathan Wittig and wife, April of Ganado, sister, Maydell Wittig and husband, Gilbert, brothers, Randy Zunker and David Zunker and wife, Pauline, and her grandchildren, Austin, Lauren, and Ryan White, Carter Kovar and Lindie Wittig.

 

Visitation will begin at 1 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with funeral services following at 2 pm. Serving as pallbearers are Alan White, Austin White, Ryan White, Randy Zunker and David Zunker. Honorary pallbearers are Lauren White, Carter Kovar,  and Lindie Wittig.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
