Santos Mendez Munoz, age 66, of Wharton, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, at a Sugar Land hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 24, 1959, in Wharton, Tx to the late Jose and Nicolasa Camarena Mendez.

Santos was raised in South Houston but enjoyed her summers in Boling. She married Angel D. Munoz, Jr. Together, they built their life in Wharton. She worked for YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association), Trailways, Houston Social Service, Bingo Halls, Kmart, AT&T, Advance America, American National Insurance Company, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and was an election Poll Worker. She was known as a devoted Catholic participating in the Catholic Daughters of America, St Vincent DePaul Society, the Guadalupanas, LULAC and started a non-profit John Michael Garcia Scholarship Fund. She prayed her rosary daily and loved attending Mass. Santos could also be found trying her luck at the casinos in Louisianna, and on cruise ships in the Gulf. She loved going on “Girls Weekends” with her cousins and the “Lefties.” Her favorite pastime of all was spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Michael Garcia and grandson, Ethan Munoz.

Santos is survived by her husband, Angel Munoz, daughter, Gisselle Munoz and husband, Carlos Chiulli, sons, Carlos Ruiz and wife, Veronica Quilantan, Joshua Munoz and Zachary Munoz and wife, Mercedes, sister, Emilia Mendez, her brothers and sisters; Lucille Garcia, John Garcia and wife, Maria, Steve Garcia and wife, Marlene, Adolph Garcia and wife, Mary, Arthur Garcia and wife, Monica, Adam Garcia and wife, Sheila, Daniel Garcia, Benjamin Garcia and Victoria Garcia and husband, Christopher, and her grandchildren, Evan Munoz and wife, Katie, Ariana Ruiz, Dillon Fuentes, Isabella Chiulli and Michael Chiullli and her great grandchild, Ethan Munoz.

Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, after 9 am with a parish rosary recited at 9:30 am at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Mass and Rite of Committal held at 10 am.
