Rosemary Samuelson

Rosemary Samuelson, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend passed away on May 16, 2025 in a hospital in Sugar Land, Texas at the age of 84. Rosemary was born in Tchula, Mississippi on September 27, 1940 to Norman and Leslie Samuelson. She graduated from Tchula High School in 1958 and Methodist Hospital School of Nursing Memphis, Tennessee in 1961. As a Registered Nurse, she was dedicated to her profession, and returned to school to expand her knowledge in healthcare administration earning her BA in Accounting in 1992 from Houston Baptist University. Rosemary was a resident of Richmond, Texas at the time of her passing.

Rosemary was a faithful follower of Jesus and loved others well with her words and actions. She brought warmth, kindness, and a generous heart to everyone she met. Rosemary was a dedicated member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Houston for 55 years. She was humbled and honored to receive a Distinguished Life Award from St. Luke’s in 2018. She enjoyed her choir family, and used her beautiful voice to sing during church services, concerts, and while travelling with the choir. Her presence and voice will be deeply missed by her church family.

A longtime and devoted employee at Shriners Hospital for Children in Houston, Rosemary cared deeply for her patients and taught and guided her employees to do the same. She loved spreading joy to her patients by participating in parties and celebrations. A great deal of thought and effort went into her Halloween costumes each year to the delight of her patients. She retired in 2002 after more than 30 years of service.

Rosemary loved cats and had many fur babies throughout the years. Some of her favorite things to do were taking care of her flowers, gardening, and working puzzles. She was a loyal Houston Astros fan and was always excited to see them play. Rosemary was an avid reader and enjoyed a good Starbucks. She was skilled at sewing, crocheting, making afghans, doll clothes and special handcrafted gifts for her loved ones. Rosemary had 19 nieces and nephews and countless great nieces and nephews, and she did a great job of keeping up with all of them. Family reunions were a treasured time and Rosemary enjoyed participating in all the fun, shopping, and games. She was one of the primary instigators when it came to family skits and jokes.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Leslie Samuelson, her brothers, Alvin, Norman, and Melvyn Samuelson, sisters Sylvia Tramel, Mona Kelly, and Myrtle Gainey, brothers-in-law Lee Tramel, Bill Kelly, and Ben Gainey, sister-in-law Virginia, and nephew Paul Samuelson. She is survived in death by her brother, David Samuelson and his wife Becky, sisters-in-law Mary Samuelson and Evelyn Samuelson, 18 nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at 1:00pm, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00pm, Friday, May 30th at Wharton Funeral Home, 515 E. Boling Hwy, Wharton, Texas. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s First United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas on Saturday June 14th at 2:00pm.
