Robert Ray Fulton

January 1, 1927 — January 4, 2021

Robert Ray “Bob” Fulton, 94, of Wharton, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021.  He was born January 1, 1927, in Atwood, Oklahoma to parents Thomas W. and Maude E. Caffee Fulton.

Bob was raised in Oklahoma City, OK and attended Foster High School before enlisting in the US Navy at the young age of 17.  He proudly served our country during World War II and was honorably discharged on March 25, 1946.  He married Wanda Lou Crutchfield, the love of his life, on November 15, 1946.  She proceeded him in death on March 27, 2014 after 67 years of devoted marriage.

Bob and Lou moved to Texas where they started their family and he began his career with Texasgulf Sulphur Company. He worked at Texasgulf for 40 years until his retirement in April 1985.  Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing, card games, dominos, RVing and woodworking.  His family has many cherished items he has built for them, with his talented hands, over the years. He was a devout Christian man who loved spending time with his family. Papa, as his grandchildren and great grandchildren called him, was always in attendance at any sporting event they participated in. He was their biggest fan!  As many know, Bob was an avid Astros fan as well. On April 12, 1965 he was at the first Astros game in the Astrodome and was more than excited to attend Game 3 of the 2005 World Series! He was a devoted fan for 55 years when they finally won the World Series in 2017!  He never left the house without putting on a baseball cap.  He was proud of his large collection of caps he collected over the years which included his favorite teams and the places he visited.  He displayed a few of them proudly on the back of his couch, just in reach so his great great grandsons could grab one to put on when they came to visit him.

Bob was a member of Wharton Baptist Church and Rice Belt Travel & Camping Club. He was a 69 year Mason and a member of the Wharton Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings Charley Fulton, Gene Fulton, Charlotte Pritchett, Evelyn Hiland, Walter B. Fulton, Russell Fulton, Perry Fulton, Kenneth H. Fulton and Bonnie Fulton.

He is survived by his daughters Paula Davis and husband James of Wharton and Kathy Hill and husband Larry of Boling; 5 grandchildren Wanda Davis Wolfe, Vicky Davis Janecek (Glen), Carman Hill Tanner (David), Colleen Hill Forasiepi and James Robert “Bobby” Davis; 10 great-grandchildren Hannah and Rylee Wolfe, Barrett (Jayci) and Braden Janecek, LD, Elyse and Rhett Tanner, Abigail and Emily Forasiepi and Colette Harbin-Davis; 3 great-great grandsons Khylan, Jagger and Talon.
