Richard "Rickey" Light

May 17, 1952 — April 23, 2026

Richard Wayne “Rickey” Light, 73, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on April 23, 2026, surrounded by his close family.

Rickey was born on May 17, 1952. He was raised in Smiley, Texas. He built a life grounded in hard work, family, and a deep connection to agriculture as a cattle and pig man. In his prime, he was also a dedicated gardener, growing more than enough to share with family, friends, and anyone in need. He also loved fishing, from cane pole fishing with his grandpa and young family to later years spent fishing the reservoir in Newgulf.

He was a dedicated supporter of his community, actively involved with local FFA and 4-H clubs, the Boling Bullshooters Scholarship Fund, the Boling Fair Fund, and the Wharton County Youth Fair.

He had a special way with dogs, and in his later years, his blue heeler was his loyal sidekick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aileen Servoss Light and Winston Douglas Light and his son-in-law Anthony Auld.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Light; his son, Doug Light and wife Charlotte; his daughters, LeAnn Light and Kasey Auld; grandchildren Kaylee Light, Rylee Cervantes and husband Saul, and Lucas Light; and his sisters, Sheryl Durham, Brenda Podsim, and Marie Light, along with their families and numerous extended family members.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Wharton Funeral Home, with burial at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Boling Fair Fund.
