Richard "Ricky" Light

Richard Wayne “Ricky” Light, age 73, of Van Vleck, Texas passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at a Sugar Land hospital. He was born on May 17, 1952, in San Antonio, Tx to the late Winston and Aileen Servoss Light.

Ricky was raised in and graduated from Yorktown High School with the class of 71. He married Linda Binz on July 3, 1971, in Cuero. Ricky made his life in the cattle business, working for area ranches to perfect their herds. He loved working with the youth of Wharton County with their fair and show projects. Many days could find him helping with benefit fundraisers to support the youth of our county. He was a founding member of the Boling Bullshooters, the Boling Fair Fund and was on the Board of Directors of the Wharton County Youth Fair. Ricky loved fishing, cooking outdoors and making his famous fajitas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Anthony Auld.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Ligfht of Van Vleck, daughters, Leann Light of Bentonville, AR and Kasey Auld of Wharton, son, Doug Light and wife, Charlotte of Bay City, sisters, Cheryl Durham and husband, Oscar, Brenda Podsin and husband, Melvin and Marie Light, his grandchildren, Kaylee Light, Rylee Cervantes and husband, Saul and Lucas Light and many friends.

Visitation will begin at 1230 pm Wednesday, April 29 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with a funeral service starting at 2pm. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
