Rebecca Cantu Montoya, a cherished caregiver to so many and a beloved figure in her community, passed away on May 27, 2026, at the Wharton Nursing Home, surrounded by family. Born on February 22, 1964, in New gulf, Texas, Rebecca’s life was a rich tapestry woven with love, laughter, and devotion that touched all who knew her.
Rebecca graduated from Boling High School, laying the foundation for a life marked by service and connection. She was a big jokester whose infectious humor brought light and joy to countless moments. A lover of music, Rebecca found solace and expression in melodies that echoed the warmth of her spirit. Her passion for cooking was more than a skill—it was a way she demonstrated love and care for her family, always creating meals that nourished both body and soul.
Her faith and commitment to her church community were unwavering. Rebecca was always deeply involved in church activities at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Boling, serving in every capacity she could. Whether organizing events or lending a helping hand, her dedication was an inspiration, and her presence a comfort.
Rebecca’s marriage to Manuel Montoya of Boling, Texas, was a cornerstone of her life. Together, they shared 40 blissful years of marriage filled with love and countless treasured memories. Every moment was special to them, especially their cherished trips to Mexico, where they built unforgettable memories that would forever warm their hearts.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Manuel Montoya; her sister, Ophelia Botello of Wharton; her brothers, Julian Cantu Jr. of Houston and Juan Ramon Cantu of Boling; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren who carry forward her legacy of kindness and love. They, along with many friends and community members, will miss her dearly.
Rebecca was predeceased by her father, Julian Cantu Sr.; her mother, Guadalupe Bermudes; and her sisters, Sonia Cantu and Irene Juarez. Their memories remain a cherished part of her story.
The community will gather to honor Rebecca’s life at St. Joseph Catholic Church, located at 106 Lalla Rookh, Boling-Iago, Texas, 77420, on June 8, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a prayer service at 9:30 a.m., a funeral service at 10:00 a.m., and a graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Park, 3511 East Alabama Road, Wharton, Texas, 77488, at 11:15 a.m.
Rebecca Cantu Montoya’s gentle spirit, her playful heart, her enduring faith, and her boundless love have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of joy, service, and family love will continue to inspire and comfort those who hold her memory dear.
