Peggy Enax

December 2, 1958 — December 24, 2021

Peggy Enax, 63, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away after a long, valiant battle with cancer at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas in the afternoon of December 24, 2021.

Peggy, the fourth of four children, was born December 2, 1958, in Richmond, Texas, to Edwin and Mildred Enax.  She began her education at Beasley Elementary School in Beasley, Texas and graduated from Lamar High School in the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District in 1976.  From there she attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas before receiving a full scholarship from the University of Texas at El Paso as one of the first female student athletic trainers.

She began her career in El Paso, TX as a History Teacher and Athletic Trainer at Hanks High School.  From there, Peggy relocated to San Antonio, Texas in 1990 to be closer to family.  Here, she thrived as a high school and college level history teacher all the while serving as an Athletic Trainer in the North East Independent School District.  Peggy touched the lives of so many with her kindness and willingness to listen.  She was always there to share in a good laugh with colleagues and family as well as lend her support to those who needed it.

Peggy and Tracy Anderson, her partner, spent 28 wonderful years together.  The next adventure for them was always “just around the corner.”  Whether it be traveling, playing golf, visiting with friends and relatives, or just being at home and walking their two dogs, Charley and Buddy, the true meaning of love and support surrounded them endlessly.

Peggy adored her nieces and nephews and also the great nephews who eventually came long.  Whenever she could, she would seek to find opportunities to visit them whether it be in California, Colorado, New Mexico, or here in Texas in New Braunfels and in the Houston area.  One of her favorite times of the year was Christmas time in which she eagerly awaited the annual Enax Christmas event.  She was always the first to want to visit with each and every family member at this event and always asked where those were that couldn’t attend. She was loved by all.

After Peggy’s retirement from teaching in public school, she continued teaching for Northeast Lakeview College within the Alamo Community College District in San Antonio, volunteered as a board member on Porch which is the St. Philip’s College Ministry through her church, Christ Lutheran, in San Antonio, TX, kept busy with her book clubs, and remained in contact with friends and relatives near and far every chance she got.

Peggy’s optimism for life, infectious laugh, and love and kindness to others will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Enax, father, her mother, Annie Mildred Enax, and, her older brother, Michael Wayne Enax.

She is survived by her spouse, Tracy Leann Anderson, of San Antonio; siblings, Barbara (Bill) Hart of Palestine, Texas; and Sandra Jean (Jerome) Macha of Beasley, Texas.  Survivors also include numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins from both the Enax and Gibson sides of the family.

Pallbearers are Blake Enax, Greg Hart, Maddox Hart, Cameron Macha, Jacob Woods, Darwin Enax, Jared Cochran, and Daniel Anderson. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, December 26, 2021 after 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton, Texas.  Funeral services will be held at Freidens United Church of Christ in Beasley, Texas on the morning of Monday, December 27, 2021 beginning at 10 A.M. at Friedens United Church of Christ in Beasley, TX. Interment to follow at Friedens United Church of Christ Cemetery.
