Paulina Poncik, age 87, of East Bernard passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024 in a Wharton nursing center. Paulina was born on June 19, 1936 in Bay City, TX to the late Robert and Mary Ruether Talafuse.
Paulina was raised in Bay City and attended Bay City High School. She married Frank J Hlavinka, Sr. in 1954. He preceeded her in death on May 20, 1974. She later married Edward Poncik in 1980. He also preceded her in death on September 24, 2016. Paulina worked in banking as a branch manager for many years. She enjoyed baking and sewing.
Paulina is survived by her son, Frank Hlavinka, Jr. and wife, Renee of East Bernard; daughters, Barbara Havemann and husband, Charles, and Catherine Adams of Wallis, grandchildren, Cody Havemann and wife, Casie, Justin Havemann and wife, Candi, Sheila Sturdivant and husband, Forrest, Casey Adams and wife, Tamara and Jared Hlavinka, great grandchildren,Peyton Havemann, Emily Havemann,Ryder Havemann, Isabella Havemann, Gabriel Adams, Greyson Adams, Taylor Archer and Raigen Archer, Cody and Colton, along with numerous brothers in law and sisters in laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Paulina was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her siblings: Albert Ruether, Pete Talafuse, Rosie Janssen, Mary Marshall, Louis Talafuse, Albina Jones and infant Charlie Talafuse along with numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 starting at 9 a.m. with a Mass Celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard, Tx with Father Charles Ostiwah officiating. The Rite of Committal and Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Jared Hlavinka, Casey Adams, Cody Havemann, Bo Kucera, Kenneth Srubar and Michael Jones.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Wharton Nursing and Rehab for the loving care she received over the years.
Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
