 Ninfa Rodriguez Luera passed into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday April 20, 2022, surrounded by family, at her Wharton residence after a lengthy illness.  She was born on November 25, 1932 in New Gulf, TX to the late Rafael Rodriguez and Clotilde Uribe Rodriguez. 

Ninfa grew up in in New Gulf and graduated from Boling High School.  After high school, she attended and graduated from Wharton County Junior College.  After college she met the love of her life, David Luera and they wed on September 6, 1953 in New Gulf.  Together they started a family who will always fondly remember her for the love she had and showed to all of her family, children and grandchildren.  Ninfa enjoyed baking, decorating wedding cakes, sewing, playing cards and hanging out with friends.  She was a Social Worker who retired after 40 years with the Texas Department of Human Services.

Ninfa is survived by her son, David Luera of Canyon Lake, TX;  daughter,  Sonia Hernandez and her husband Johnnie of Mandeville, LA; daughter, Laura Luera of Wharton; daughter, Suzanne Bordelon and her husband Marty of Port Allen, LA.  She is also survived by her sisters Rosalinda Steely of Houston, Dalia Fernandez and her husband Carl of Baton Rouge, LA; her grandchildren Jonathan Hernandez and his wife Renata, Matthew Hernandez and his wife Tara, Yvonne Taylor and her husband Chris, Daniel Bordelon and his wife Laura, and Benjamin Bordelon; great grandchildren, Petra Rose Hernandez, Paige Coon and her husband Phillip, Cameron Gresham, Cayden Lowery and one great great granddaughter Amelia Stewart.   Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan & Matthew Hernandez, Daniel & Benjamin Bordelon, Cameron Gresham, and Cayden Lowery.  Honorary pallbearers are Johnnie Hernandez and Marty Bordelon.

The family is very grateful for the outstanding love and care given to her by her caregiver of 4 ½ years, Mina Garcia.  She cared for their mother as if she was her own.

Special thanks to Altus Hospice for their generous care during this time.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday April 22nd from 5-7 P.M. at Wharton Funeral Home 515 E. Boling Hwy.  Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M.  Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 23rd at 10:00 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 101 Church St., Hungerford.  Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Wharton.
