October 20, 2010 ~ June 7, 2021

 Nicholas Eugene Stephens-Arriaga, 10, of Wharton, passed away tragically on June 7, 2021, at Matagorda Beach while with his family. He was born in Wharton, Texas to Bianca Arriaga on October 20, 2010.

Nick was a student at Wharton Elementary School and an active member of the Boling Youth Football League. He loved playing and excelled at every position the coaches challenged him to play. He also enjoyed dancing and “showing off his moves.” He was a happy young man that considered himself a movie buff. He also loved being outdoors, fishing and playing with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Martin Hernandez and Petra Arriaga-Hernandez, Janie Aguilar and Raymond Salazar.

He is survived by his mother, Bianca Arriaga, grandparents, Irene and Alex Arriaga, Sr., aunts, Janice Gaona and family, Alexis and Evan Ozuna, Sabrina Arriaga and Kimberly Castro, and Rachel Arriaga, uncles, Alex Arriaga, Jr., and Martin Arriaga, numerous great aunts, great uncles and cousins, the entire BYFL members, players, coaches as well as his classmates and neighbors. 

Pallbearers include Coach Carlton Waddy, Coach Tom Elliott, Coach Fred Agu, Coach Richard Rodriguez, Coach Hector Mendez, Coach Russell Diaz, Coach Sam Jackson, and JT Vasquez. Honorary pallbearers are his BYFL teammates and Michael Castro.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 13, after 5 pm at Wharton Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021, at 12 noon at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, the Coast Guard, Air Coast Guard from Corpus Christi, the Matagorda Sherriff Department, Matagorda EMS and Fire Department, Texas Game Wardens and all those people who brought food, drinks and came to search by foot, truck or by boat.  We are forever grateful.
