Nevis Joy Williams

November 24, 1931 — January 25, 2024

Nevis Joy Williams, age 92, of Burr, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the morning of January 25, 2024. She was preceded in death by her father Henry McDowell Gerald, mother Elenore Frances Gerald, sister Jerry Lynne Ray, husband Billie "Bill" Renfro Williams and daughter Darbie Joyce.

She is survived by sister, Karen Gerald, daughter, Laurie Williams, grandchildren Jason Michael Guy and Jena Leigh Krinock, and great-grandchildren Zane Alexander Guy, Lily Kai Krinock, and Lucy Abigail Krinock. Nevis was born in Old Gulf, Texas on November 24th, 1931.

She was blessed with a happy, healthy childhood surrounded by a doting family who loved and cherished her. When she was a young girl, her family moved to New Gulf, Texas. Little did she know that the boy who lived next door was destined to become her adoring husband, Bill.  As newlyweds, the young lovers shared an adventure to California during Bill's Marine service before coming home to settle on her family's farm in Burr. Hers was a household filled with her boundless love, where her two beautiful, intelligent daughters enjoyed a storybook childhood. She adored children and opened her heart and home to family, friends, neighbors, and students at Sunday school.  Nevis had an infectious generosity and would encourage others to do and be anything they dreamed of, no matter the obstacles in their path. When her daughters gave her grandchildren, she likewise opened her heart and imagination to guide them to everything their hearts desired. She was a caretaker by necessity but that made her no less impeccable at the task when called upon. She nursed Bill back to health after a major stroke few could survive and cared for her daughter, Darbie, as she battled multiple sclerosis. Even after losing her husband of sixty-seven years, she continued to be an example of love and resilience for her great-grandchildren, whom she loved with just as much voracity as their parents and grandparents. She leaves this life cherished by the many hearts she shaped and filled with her joyful love. She will always be with us, kindling our imaginations and nurturing the fire that lights the way to our dreams.
