Michael Anthony DeLeon, affectionately known as “Coach,” age 73 of Boling, TX was called home on May 26, 2026.
Michael was born on January 21, 1953 in San Antonio, TX to mother Mary DeLeon Trevino. He attended St Michael’s Catholic School in San Antonio, TX and later moved to Newgulf Elementary School in the fifth grade. He graduated from Boling High School as a member of the Bulldogs Class of 1971. He loved music and was the lead singer of his high school band, the Blue Mist. He then continued his studies at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Michael loved his country and proudly served as a member of the United States Marine Corps, stationed in Quantico, VA. He then owned his own business, Glass Southwest. A former high school athlete, he put his passion for sports into action as an assistant football coach and head track coach at high schools in Alvin, TX and Bay City, TX. Michael finished his longtime coaching career at West Columbia High School in West Columbia, TX.
Michael was an avid sports fan, closely followed the Houston Astros, and was a season ticket holder for the Houston Texans. A family man, devoted son, and loving brother, he cared deeply for his extended family and will be remembered by those he held close for his big heart.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary, and numerous aunts, uncles, and other beloved family members. He is survived by his sister Michele Trevino Badajosa, of San Antonio, TX, nephew Kevin (Izzy) Badajosa, great-niece Oakley Reign Badajosa, great-nephew Asher Grey Badajosa, aunt Sylvia Ortiz and numerous cousins.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday June 2nd 2026 between 5-8 at Wharton Funeral Home with a 6:30 pm Rosary. The burial will be Thursday June 4th 2026 at Fort Sam National Cemetery at 9:45 am at Shelter 5.
Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Martinez, Edward Martinez, Chris Martinez, Kevin Badajosa, Joe Ortiz Jr., Leroy Villareal, David Sanchez, Steve Nelson, Pete Kucera, and Alan Roberts.
Michael’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Enhabit Home Health, physical and occupational therapy, and Nurse Heather.
