Mary Hernandez, 97, of Wallis and formerly of Houston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at her sisters’ house in Wallis. She was born on August 7, 1926, in Simonton, Texas to the late Bennie and Rumalda Clark Alvarado.

Mary was raised in the Wallis area and attended Wallis High School. She married Ralph Hernandez on December 7, 1948. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2011, after 62 years of marriage. Mary was a homemaker and loved taking care of her children, Eulalio and Brenda. She enjoyed flowers and was often seen working in her yard and garden. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Hernandez. 

Mary is survived by her son, Eulalio Hernandez of Houston, sisters, Pauline Alvarado and Rita Main both of Wallis and brother, Raymond Alvarado of Houston and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, after 9 am at First Baptist Church in Wallis. Funeral services will follow at 11 am with Pastor Eddy Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Wallis City Cemetery.
