Lillian Marie Kohleffel

Lillian Marie Hubenak Kohleffel of Wharton, Texas went to her Heavenly home prepared for her by Jesus Christ our Lord on August 27, 2025, following an extended illness. She was born on August 2, 1943, in El Campo, Texas to the late Anton “Slim” Hubenak and Cecilia Rod Hubenak. In addition to her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her three brothers, Lonnie, Jesse and Donald Hubenak.

She grew up on Pierce Ranch and then moved to Mackay, Texas. She went to Pierce School and graduated from Wharton High School. She also graduated from Wharton County Junior College with an Associates of Arts degree. While attending WCJC, she worked at Rugeley and Blasingame Clinic as a medical transcriptionist for 3 years. She met the love of her life, Allen Kohleffel, in English class at WCJC and they got married on March 1, 1964. March 1, 2025, marked their 61st Wedding Anniversary.

She was living in Fort Hood, Texas with Allen for a year and then came home to Wharton. She worked at South Texas Medical Clinics for 35 years and retired in 2000. She enjoyed being a member of Catholic Daughters of America 1900. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and professional Business Club for many years. Lillian was also Vice-President of Chamber of Commerce for four years. She was also the recipient of the “Woman of the Year Book Award”.

Lillian is survived by her husband, Allen Kohleffel as well as brothers, Willfred Hubenak and family and Michael Hubenak and family. She also left behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive visitors on September 2, 2025, at Wharton Funeral Home starting at 9 am. Rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters of America Court 1900 after visitation. Funeral services will be celebrated at Wharton Funeral Home at 10:30 am with Father Samuel Appiasi officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers are Larry Smith, Kordell Smith, Landon Smith, Philip Hubenak, Terrell Hubenak, and Charles Allen Kohleffel.
