Judy Alice Johnson

September 15, 1947 — November 12, 2019

Ms. Judy Alice Johnson went to her Heavenly home on November 12, 2019 following a lengthy illness.  She was born on September 15, 1947 and was adopted 3 days later by Phil and Mary Conover Johnson.

Judy graduated from Wharton High School and then attended college in Georgia where she earned her degree in Nursing.  In her younger days, Judy modeled in style shows for Esther Wolfe fashions.  She considered working in the retail fashion industry  but decided to continue working as a registered nurse in Houston for an orthopedic surgeon.  She worked as a health care professional until her retirement.

Judy moved back to Wharton to help care for her aging parents.  She had diverse interest which led her to open a small bookstore, The Book Worm.  Later, she worked as a substitute teacher, and most recently taught Certified Nursing Assistant classes at Wharton County Junior College.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and dear friend, Kelley Rainbolt.

She is survived by close friend, Sandra Zahn and Dr. Richard Boehm, a loyal family friend who has been a constant source of support throughout her lengthy illness, taking on the responsibilities that a family member would normally assume.

Special thanks are given to Anna Bernshausen for her friendship to Judy during her stay at Elmcroft Assisted Living Center; her caregivers, Mary Taylor, Dale Martinez, Hannah Waddy, Elaine Bunch, Joy Hayes, Kecia Wells, Bridget Glover, Sheryl Lee, Gloria Duncan, Diane Rodriguez and Tarecia Hargrove.; the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living, the exceptional employees of Houston Hospice of El Campo, and to Debbie Folks who generously stepped up to care for Judy’s beloved dog, Tater.

A private graveside burial was under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.  Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com
