Juanita Pena

Juanita Pena March 29, 1925 ~ January 13, 2024 Juanita Pena, age 98, passed away January 13, 2024, at her residence following a brief illness. She was born on March 29, 1925 in Hallettsville, TX to the late Joe and Shauna Gomez Pesina. Juanita was raised in the Wharton area. She married Luciano Pena in 1943 in Wharton. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1989. Juanita enjoyed playing Bingo, spoiling her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She loved making tamales and made them until her 97th birthday. Juanita adored watching her Spanish Novellas and sharing stories of her childhood. She always prided herself on being indepandant. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her children, Mary Lucio, Benito Pena and Jesse Pena. She is survived by her children, Alice Pena, Amelia Gonzalez, Lucy Mirales, Lupe Ottino, John Pena, Ernest Pena, Eugene Pena, Roy Pena, 35 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Wharton Funeral Home, 515 Boling Highway, Wharton, Texas on Friday, January 19 after 5 pm. Rosary will be recited at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Sam Appassi at Holy Family Catholic Church, on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 12pm. Serving as pallbearers are Steven Lucio, Henry Ottino, Roy Pena, Jr., Frank Garza, Daniel Gonzales and Jesse Lee Pena. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
