Juan Ruiz

Juan Ruiz, 81, of Wharton passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at a Sugar Land hospital following an extended illness. He was born on November 6, 1941, in La Mesa, Texas to the late Pedro Ruiz and Conception Rios Ruiz.

Juan was raised in the La Mesa area. He married Ernestina Ruiz on November 15, 1964, in Wharton. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2021.  He was a skilled cabinet maker, a devout Catholic and loved sports – especially football (Go Cowboys), baseball (Go ‘Stros) and volleyball.  He enjoyed playing washers and Chinese checkers with friends and family.  He loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren in their sport activities and other events.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Garza and his brothers, Guadalupe Ruiz and Ignacio Ruiz.

Juan is survived by his children Rhonda Ruiz, Rhoda Ruiz, Roland & Cathy Ruiz and Randy & Carolina Ruiz, sisters, Manuela Perales and  Janie Arreazola of Kennedy, brother, Andres Ruiz of San Antonio, grandchildren, Stephanie & Quincy Ragston, Stacy & Joseph Aguilar, Randy & Jessica Ruiz, Jr., Ryan & Chelsea Ruiz, Chase & Katy Ruiz, Kellsie Ruiz, Sebastian Castro and PVT Jacob Castro and great grandchildren Krystella Lopez, Ramiro Lopez, Mathew Lopez, Jocelyn Lopez, Dylan Silva, Devon Silva, Randy Ruiz III, Autumn Ruiz, Aden Ruiz, Bryson Ruiz, Connor Ruiz and Penny Aguilar.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects Sunday, November 27^th after 4 pm at the Wharton Funeral Home, 515 E. Boling Hwy. with a rosary service to begin at 6:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be on Monday, November 28th, 2022, at 11 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S East Ave in Wharton. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Wharton.
