Juan MaldonaldoFebruary 15, 1938 - May 4, 2026
Juan Guajardo Maldonaldo, 88, of Wharton, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, in an Eagle Lake hospital following a brief illness. He was born on February 15, 1938, in Los Fresnos, Texas to the late Julian and Consuelo Guajardo Maldonado.
Juan was raised in the Wharton area, and attended Wharton High School. He enlisted in the United States Army soon after high school. Juan married Guadalupe Hernandez on November 22, 1959, in New Gulf, Texas. Juan retired from the U.S. Army serving 22 years, specializing in communications; serving in Korean and Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors, and working on his tractor. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend for many people. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Steven.
Juan is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Guadalupe Maldonaldo of Wharton; children Jim Maldonado of Wharton, Jerry Maldonaldo (Joné) of Wharton, Apolonio Maldonaldo (Alice) of Slaton, and Damacia Maldonaldo of Richmond, sisters, Elvira Delgado of League City and Connie Resendez of Harlingen, brother, Cristobal Maldonaldo of Falfurias, grandchildren, Jason, Apolonio Jr (Amanda), Jessica (Ray), Erin (Joseph), Emily, Rudy Jr, Joey, Ashley, Cindy, Augustina (Vincent), Michael, Charles, Andrew (Amber), Quinton, Timothy (Mary), and William. Great grandchildren, Jayden, Jase, Jaxon, Layla, Paisley, Titus, Camilla, Elizabeth, Azalea, Autumn, Jasmine, Jacob, Kenzie and Kaelynn. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton, beginning at 5:00 PM, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Fr. Antonio Perez celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of Burial. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton with members of the United States Army performing Honors.
