Jose V Ortiz, 85, of Boling, Texas, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Born April 4,1940 in La Féria, Texas, Jose spent a long, proud career as a union carpenter. He was known as someone who could repair anything broken or build whatever was needed. He was extremely talented working with his hands and was always ready to jump into new projects.
Jose had an endless passion for music, and traveled across the country to play Tejano, Conjunto, polka, and classic rock music. He formed his own band at age 21 while in Los Angeles and was talented on several musical instruments. He cheerfully whistled everywhere he went and loved attending music festivals whenever he could. Jose would often be heard sitting on his front porch entertaining everyone who passed by with songs on his beloved accordion, his favorite instrument.
He loved fishing with his children, teaching his grandchildren about life, and watching old western movies. He deeply loved sports and would travel to Texas high school playoff games around the state. A devoted family man and friend to many, he never hesitated to help a neighbor in need.
Jose is survived by his wife, Sylvia D. Ortiz, of Boling, children Marlo Ferrell, Monica Ortiz, and Joe Ortiz Jr., siblings Emilio Ortiz, Jesse Ortiz, Ramiro Ortiz, Gloria Ortiz, Sylvia Ortiz and their spouses, and grandchildren Gabrielle Alcala, Aubrey Alcala, Jocelyn Ortiz, and Victoria Ortiz. He is preceded in death by his siblings Maggie, Roman, Armando, and many other family members and friends.
A celebration of Jose’s life will be held at a later date.
