Joe Frank Talafuse, 63, of Houston and formerly of Wharton died on June 9, 2026, in a Sugar Land hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 20, 1962, in East Bernard, Texas, to the late Gilbert Talafuse, Sr. and Clara Britton Talafuse.

In his leisure time, Joe never missed watching his favorite sports teams, the Houston Astros and Texans. He also had an appreciation for nature, often enjoying peaceful walks in the park near his home, where he could watch wildlife.

Joe was a proud general operator in the oil and gas industry, dedicating his skills and hard work over many years at Schlumberger. His work took him to many remarkable locations ranging from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico, where he made lasting connections with colleagues and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Talafuse, Sr. and Clara Britton Talafuse, son, Terry Lee Talafuse, and brother, Gilber Talafuse, Jr.

Joe is survived by his beloved daughter, Tonda Rachunek, and husband, Adam of Wharton; his loving sisters, Katherine Janicek and husband, Larry of Sealy, Billie Becak and husband, Frankie of El Campo, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Wharton Funeral Home at 9:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am with Father Sam Appiassi officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Lunch and fellowship will follow the service proceedings.
