Joan Priscilla Montgomery

Joan Priscilla Montgomery, 81, of Wharton, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in a Richmond hospital following a brief illness.   She was born on June 23, 1938 in Kentucky to Willard and Hazel Cottrell.

Joan was raised in Kentucky and in Texas where she graduated from high school. She married Reuben Montgomery on April 1, 1960 in Houston. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1994. Joan was a homemaker all her life. She devoted many hours to her church, College Heights Baptist Church in Wharton. She enjoyed crafts, taking care of her animals, loved reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her step-father, Raymond Bear, who raised her most of her life.

Joan is survived by her children, Joné Maldonado and husband, Jerry of Wharton, Patrice Montgomery of Wharton, and Rebecca Martinez and husband, David of Brady and son, Daniel Montgomery Sr. and wife, JoAnn of East Bernard, sisters, Bonnie Brucker and husband, Craig of Spring, Patricia Vick of Spring and Karla Kasperit and husband, Mike of Porter, brother, Mark Bear and wife, Laura of Boerne, her loving grandchildren, Charles King and wife, Katrina, Michael King, Samantha Whalen and husband, Curtis, Kayla Montgomery, Daniel Montgomery, Jr., Faith Montgomery, Ashley Collins and husband, Scotty, Summer Pospisil, Abigail Gillaspy and husband, Cody, Joseph Pospisil, Joshua Matthews, Kate Matthews, and Tina Maldonaldo and her great grandchildren, Phoenix, Andoria, Jeremiah, Kemberlyn, Chantz, Lanah, Kori, Jeremih, Jeremy, Hayden, Kaleigh, Payton, Braylee, Gracie, Adrian, Gabriella, Angel and Hazel.

Visitation will begin at 9 am Friday, January 31, 2020 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with services beginning at 10 am with Rev. Kenny Hibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
