Jesucita "Susie" Pena Alvarado, 84, of Houston passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at her residence. Susie, as she was known to all, was born on April 18, 1941, in Wharton, TX to the late Pedro and Manuela Lopez Pena.
Susie was raised in Wharton. She was a devout Catholic and her strong faith was demonstrated in the way she lived her life. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, listening to music, singing in her church choir and playing the guitar. She spearheaded the annual family reunion for many years, because her love of her family and knowing the importance of maintaining strong bonds were a high priority to Susie.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and lovingly remembered by her beautiful farewell of “Have a blessed day, God bless you and give my love to everybody.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Rosa Pesch, Dominga Galindo, and Consuelo Pena; brothers Pedro Pena, Jr., Patricio Pena and Candelario Pena; nephews Danny Sanchez, Johnny Sanchez Jr., and Mario Galindo; niece Michelle Tamez.
Susie is survived by her siblings, Teresa Flores, Mauro Pena, Martin Pena, Lala Rios, Angie Valdez, and Connie Cardenas. Along with numerous friends and extended relatives.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, after 9 am, rosary recited at 9:30 am followed by the celebration of Holy Mass at 10 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. A Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mauro Pena, Felix Nunez, Raymond De La Cerda, and Oscar Galindo.
Funeral services are under the direct supervision of Wharton Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com
