Jerry Louis Laitkep

Jerry Laitkep, 77, of Wharton, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at his residence following a brief illness. Jerry was born on June 5, 1946 in Wharton Texas to the late Willie Jacob and Annie Hlavinka Laitkep.

Raised around Wharton, he graduated from Boling High School in 1964. Jerry served our country in the United Statrs Army Reserve for several years. OnSeptember 30, 1967, he married Julia Ann Martin in Wharton. Jerry worked as a heavy equipment operator for several years and also owned and operated Jerry’s Paint Service. He learned to fly at an early age and loved taking out his 1946 Luscomb when he could. He loved going to car shows, listening to 50 and 60’s music and spreading the word as a pastor with Lane City Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward John Laitkep and Wilford Joseph Laitkep. 

He is survived by the love of his life of almost 56 years, Julia Ann Laitkep, son, Jerry Wayne Laitkep of Wharton, daughters, Lisa R. Martin of Boerne and Dana Jean Laitkep of Galveston, brother Tim Laitkep.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6 after 5 pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 2 pm at Wharton Funeral Home with burial to follow in Evergeen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers are, Michael Stolle, Robert Hackett, Nick Laitkep, Jerry Wayne Laitkep, Timothy Gene Laitkep and Russell Neil Laitkep, Honorary pallbearers are all his friends.
