Mildred Jean Somer Schmitt

Jean Somer Schmitt, 76, of East Bernard, Texas passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at a Richmond hospital following a lengthy illness.  She was born in Chester County, TN on July 1, 1942, a daughter of the late Marcus and Dora Rowland Hurst.

Jean was raised in Chester County and attended Chester County schools. She married Leonard Somer on April 16, 1966.  He preceded her in death on March 3, 1987.  She later married Marvin Schmitt, he preceded her in death in September 2001. Jean was a farmer and homemaker all her life. She enjoyed her garden, talking about politics, and visiting with people.  She was very involved with her church, Guardian Angel in Wallis, serving on the Bazaar Committee and as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.  She was also active in the St Vincent de Paul Society. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucy Butler and Doris Phillips and brother, Gene Hurst.

Jean is survived by her son, Mark Somer and wife, Kim of East Bernard, grandson, Bryce Somer, sisters, Jan Daenen of Vidor and Helen Rushing of Columbus, MS, brothers, Donnie Hurst of Memphis, TN, Andrew Hurst of Joelton, TN and Alfred Hurst of Jackson, TN and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019 after 9 am at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis with a rosary recited at 9:30 am. The Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will be held at 10 am Thursday at the church.  Burial will follow in Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Wallis.  Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Prazak, Geoffrey Daenen, Bryan Daenen, Donnie Hurst, Andrew Hurst and Alfred Hurst.  Members of the Guardian Angel St Vincent de Paul Society will serve as honorary pallbearers.
