James Henry Stavena, 83, of Reno, NV, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home.
James was born on May 1, 1942, in Wharton, TX, to Ludwig and Anna (Novosad) Stavena.
After attending area schools, James enlisted in the United States Army in 1962, where he served three years of active duty in South Korea. Following his honorable discharge in 1965, James began what would become a 45-year career in the oilfield services industry. His work took him and his family to live in Singapore, Louisiana, Colorado, London, United Kingdom, and ultimately Reno, NV.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig Stavena and Anna (Novosad) Stavena, and by his siblings, Bernice Novosad, Estella Keeler, Dorothy Goff, Elizabeth Ingle, Margaret Worthy, Arnold Stavena, Leonard Stavena, Norbert Stavena, and Daniel Stavena.
He is survived by his partner of 26 years, Debra Geraghty, her sons Adam and Jay Geraghty, his son, James Stavena Jr.; his grandson, Elijah Stavena; and his siblings, Clara Chumchal, Patrick Stavena, and Gilbert Stavena.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at The Wharton Funeral Home, 515 E. Boling Hwy, Wharton, TX 77488, with a burial ceremony to follow at the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery, and a lunch to follow at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, TX.
A Celebration of Life will also be held in Reno, NV, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Somerset Club at Town Center, 7650 Town Square Way, Reno, NV, 89523.
