James David Smith Sr., 73, of Wharton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at his residence in Wharton. He was born on May 11, 1950, in Killeen, Texas to the late Bill Smith and Dolores Thomas.
James was raised in the Killeen area and attended Killeen High School and graduated from Killeen and U of H. He married Diane Smith on December 3, 1976, in Houston. James was a master electrician and an educator, teaching night classes at the University of Houston. He enjoyed drinking beer, watching football, trees, gardening, and playing with his dogs as well. James was also a resident of El Lobo for 37 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James D. Smith Jr.
James is survived by his wife, Diane Smith, daughters, Misty Rene Smith of West Columbia and Megan Ann Walla of Bellville, son, Billy Arthur Smith of Wharton, and grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Austin Smith, Matthew Smith, Makayla Schmoker, Gavin Brown, Cody James Smith, James Wade Smith, and Kaitlyn Dyann Walla and great grandchild, Attalie Rene Diaz.
