James David Jopling

James Jopling, 69, of Wharton, TX, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at his home in Wharton. He was born in Wharton to parents, Thomas and Dorothy Hicks Jopling on April 15, 1957. He graduated from Wharton High School and attended Wharton County Junior College. James worked for 47 years in the information/ technology portion at Shoppa’s John Deere in East Bernard. He serviced and installed the GPS found in tractors, combine and other farming equipment. James was also a certified dealer instructor thru Deere, helping others with troubleshooting and installation problems. He loved working on electronics, building and flying his remote-control airplanes.

James is survived by his fiancé, Linda Baisa of El Campo, daughter, Elsa Jopling, sisters, Charlene Contreras and husband, Joe of El Campo, Laura Abel of Houston, and Patricia Jopling of San Antonio and his brother, Thomas Jopling, Jr of Magnolia and many friends in the farming community.
