Jack D. Mayes, Jr.

Jack D. Mayes, Jr. 64, of Wharton, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 in Houston at a long term care center. He was born on February 3, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio to parents, Jack Mayes Sr and Velma Smith Mayes.

Jack was raised in the Toledo, Ohio area and graduated from Start High School. He married Barbra Ann Humphres on December 31, 1985. She preceded him in death on January 8, 2019. Jack was a painting contractor. He loved his horses, playing with his grandchildren, working on puzzles and collecting steins. His favorite holiday was Christmas as evidenced by the light display he put on yearly in Caney Trails and his ability to entertain others as Santa for the Hungerford Fire Department.. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sistersPatricia Hurst and Debbie Hummer.

He is survived by his daughters, Latisha Humphres-Robles and husband, Steven of Rosenberg, and Hydee Humphres and husband, Ruben Daily of Rosenberg, step-mother Nancy Mayes, sister, Becky Dreaden, grandchildren, Summer Salyer, Alexis Humphres, Nevaeh and Kylie Robles, Jayden Partida, Zander Arledge and Mackenzie and Madison Daily, along with several extended family members.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Wharton Funeral Home, starting at 1 p.m. with a funeral service starting at 3 pm with Chaplan David Gonzales officiating.
