Gilbert C. Palacios, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, left this world peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the age of 80. Gilbert was born in Codelle, Texas, on February 11, 1946, to the late Eusebio and Inez Castaneda Palacios.

Gilbert was raised in the Cresent area and attended school there. He worked as a welder in the construction industry for many years, working for Brown and Root, Koenig Welding and Texas Enterprises. He married Maria Garcia on September 22, 1963, in El Campo. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, coaching, playing and watching baseball. He spent many evening at the ballpark cheering on his sons, grandsons and great grandsons. He was also an avid Texans fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Roy Palacios, sisters, Cora Guevera, Manuela Acuna, Anita DeLeon and brothers, Elias Palacios, Moses Palacios, Manuel Palacios and Henry Palacios.

Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maria Palacios of Wharton; children, Diane Palacios of El Campo, Richard Palacios and wife, Mary of Wharton, Ruben Palacios and wife, Shelia of Hungerford, Serena Palacios El Campo, and Seleste Palacios of Wharton, sister, Angie Limones and husband, Juan of El Campo, grandchildren, Richard Palacios, Jr., Jacob Palacios, Angel Martinez, Monica Martinez, Samantha Palacios, Stacie Palacios, Roy Palacios and Jeremy Palacios, great grandchildren, Richard, III, Eliza, Alexandria, Ilyana, Luka, Elliott, Bryson, Annalise, Mia, Tyler, Trevyn, Trace, Samuel, Milani, Roman, Kyree and Gabriel.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton, beginning at 5:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, with Rev. Mr. David Valdez officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be: Roy Palacios, Jacob Palacios, Jeremy Palacios, Richard Palacios, Jr., J.D. Garcia and Tyler Sander.Gilbert will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his warmth, humor, and the loving legacy he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.
