George Clifford Edwards

February 25, 1959 — July 9, 2020

George Clifford Edwards, 61, died at his home in Houston, Texas, on July 9, 2020. He had been battling cancer for two years.

Clifford, as he was known to all, was born Feb. 25, 1959, in Wharton, Texas, to William Andrew “Bill” and Shirley May Smith Edwards. He graduated from Boling High School and received an associate’s degree from the Art Institute of Houston. He worked for 30 years at Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts.

He loved movies, reading, music, and singing, and could play multiple instruments. His competitive side showed through when it came to playing board games. Clifford was especially good at Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy and he played a mean game of gin. He also enjoyed croquet and watching basketball, and Golden Girls and Bugs Bunny always made him laugh.

One of his favorite past times was looking at and taking photos of the view from his apartment of Houston’s Transco (Williams) Tower.

Clifford loved his cats, and leaves behind Precious and Pharaoh.

Clifford is survived by his husband, Dan Weinberg of Houston; sister, Ginger Lloyd of Austin; brother, Robin Edwards of Euless; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as brother Bill Michael Edwards and sister Rebecca Louise Harlow.
