Gary Kacal

Gary Wayne Kacal, 74, of Katy, was reunited with the Lord on July 28th, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Wharton, Texas on January 21, 1952, to the late Clement Gabriel Kacal and Edna Srubar Kacal.

Gary grew up in Newgulf and graduated from Boling High School in 1970. Gary graduated from the University of Houston in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for WKM in Missouri City and retired from Foster Wheeler in 2017. He married Lou Ann Smolik on May 27, 1984, in Houston.

Gary loved fishing, spending most weekends with the family in Port Alto. He enjoyed music of all kinds, especially listening to polkas with his dad. He also played in a band. Gary loved watching sports, and was particularly proud of his UH classmates, the famous Phi Slama Jama. He coached baseball, from Little League to numerous select teams. He loved playing poker and a good game of 42 dominoes.

Gary is survived by his wife, Lou Ann; daughters, Lynna Michelle Kacal Krpec of East Bernard and Jennifer Lynn Kacal of Katy; son, Eric Lee Kacal and wife Kieu, of Katy; brothers, Bruce Kacal and Randy Kacal, grandchildren, Jenna Krpec, Juliette Kacal, Savannah Kacal and Catherine Kacal, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be at 9:00 am Saturday, August 8 at Wharton Funeral Home with Rosary recited at 9:30 am and Celebration of Life set to begin at 10am.

Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
