Garland Melnar, 57, of Wharton, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in a Bay City from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Garland was born on November 19, 1967, in Houston, Texas to the late Marcus and Marie Ann Mariner Melnar.
Garland was raised in Wharton and graduated from El Campo High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He later attended TSTI in Waco to learn about becoming an electrician. Garland had a love of Jesus, that showed in his desire to help others. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping going to the beach in Matagorda time with his family and his fur babies. Garland worked at VCS here in Wharton as an electrician where he considered his boss and co-workers family.
Garland is survived by his wife, April Lee Melnar, daughters, Heather Nuspliger of Wharton, Holly M. Hoffman and husband, Ryan of El Campo, Erin Morales and husband Elliot Jarisch, sons, John Hanson and wife, Addilee, Ryan Hanson and Brandon Hanson, grandchildren, Lane Nuspliger, Jacie Marie, Wyatt Henry, Morgan Hoffman, Zoey Morales, Dustin Morales, Raven Morales, Aziah Jarisch, Luna Perez, Roisin Healy, Ronan Healy, Nikolas Hanson, Penelope Hanson, Theodore Hanson, Savannah Hanson and brother Martin Velasquez.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, after 12 noon. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 2 pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearer will be Lane Nuspliger, Sam Cates, Martin Velasquez (VCS), Martin Velasquez Jr. (VCS), Julian Velasquez (VCS), Carlos Velasquez and James "Mikey" Taylor (VCS).
