Frank Russell Ahr

Frank Russell Ahr passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025 in Assisted Living in San Antonio, TX at the age of 83. He was born on January 3, 1942 in San Antonio to Thomas Charles Ahr, Sr. and Donna Racich Ahr. Frank lived a full life defined by quiet strength, loyalty, and love.

Frank’s family returned to Lead, South Dakota, in the Black Hills, when he was 5 years old. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and spent many years serving as an altar boy for the church. He enjoyed Boy Scouts and was soon appointed to be the camp cook. This skill served him well as an adult as his wife Polly was happy to relegate the kitchen to Frank. He graduated from Lead High School and joined the US Navy shortly afterwards and served for several years.

On March 18, 1967, Frank married Polly Lee Watson of Wharton, Texas. Polly was the heart of his world—kind, supportive, and full of life. Their marriage was one of deep companionship and shared devotion. After Polly’s passing in 2016, Frank continued to honor her memory each day. He will be laid to rest beside her in Wharton, where their story began.He spent most of his adult life in Houston, TX. where he worked as a supervisor for a home builder and later as an inspector in the oil and gas industry. He and Polly built a life of steady routines and enduring relationships

Frank is survived by his sister Maryann Schumacher and brother, Thomas Charles Ahr, Jr, ( Julie Ahr) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Polly Ahr, his sister Margot Ekstrom, and his mother and father.

His most constant companion in his later years was his dog, Dax. Frank and Dax shared countless walks together, with Frank finding joy and comfort in the simplicity of those everyday moments. Frank spent time with his many friends in Belmont Park, who were always present and willing to help in so many ways. Frank left a lasting impression through his steady presence, loyalty to those he loved, and the humble way he moved through the world.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 11:00am on Wed., July 16, 2025, at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wharton, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Frank’s memory to a local animal shelter or a charity close to your heart.
