Frances Marie Sablatura, age 80, of Wharton, Texas, passed away on September 21, 2026. She was born on September 16, 1946, in Wharton, Texas, to the late Rudolph and Lillie Matus Sablatura.

Frances was raised in Kendleton, where her parents owned Hilltop Grocery. She graduated from East Bernard High School and later Wharton County Junior College. She graduated from UTMB Galveston and earned her master’s degree in nursing from Texas Woman’s University.

Frances devoted many years to teaching in the Wharton County Junior College system, where she helped countless nurses earn the AND degree and begin their careers in nursing. Outside of her professional life, she enjoyed swimming, riding her bike, attending church bazaars, camping at state parks, and hiking trails. Above all, she cherished spoiling her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Sablatura; her brother Bernard Sablatura; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Sablatura.

She is survived by her companion, Eugene Korenek of El Campo, daughters, Sandra Burke and husband, Jason of Needville, and Stephanie Phipps and husband, Brian of Katy and son, Bradley Gurecky and wife, Amber of Boling, brother, David Sablatura and wife, Kay of San Antonio. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Brenden Hutton, Claire Burke, Brayden Burke, Brenna Gurecky and Colton Gurecky.

A Memorial Mass and Rite of Committal will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 10 am at St Johns’ Catholic Church in Hungerford, Tx. Burial will follow in St Johns’ Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford.
