Frances Ashby “Polly” Adams

 

Frances Adams, known as Polly, 96, of Austin and formerly of Wharton, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 of Parkinson’s disease. She was born in Parkin, Arkansas on

May 30, 1923 to Thestle and Eugenia Ashby Yewell. The family settled in Mission,Texas, where Polly was raised and graduated high school.

 

On September 9, 1942 Polly married Robert Leon Adams in Conroe, Texas. While Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War 2, Polly went to work in various military bases as a telephone operator. They moved around a lot while Bob was getting established in the oil business before settling in Wichita Falls, Texas. They had a lovely farm fourteen miles out in the country with horses and a few cattle. During this time, Polly was the “Chief Operating Officer” of Admyr, Inc., her husband’s oil logging company.

 

Polly’s main interests were playing cards and dominos, dancing, (especially with her brother, Jack), gardening, riding her horse, parties and especially, traveling. She and Jack loved spending time together and having fun! Her travels took her to far away places like China, Egypt, Ireland, Jerusalem, England and all over Europe. Polly especially enjoyed traveling with Barbara Kurtz.

 

Polly was known as a very fun-loving and generous person and will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her niece, Susan Yewell Fernandez and husband, Carlos of Austin, niece Barbara Kurtz and husband, Roy of Wharton, nephew Tommy Kurtz of Kemah, nephew Mickey Yewell and wife, Vangie from South Padre Island, and great nieces and nephews, Stephen Fernandez, Christina Carmona, Michael Yewell, Chris Erin Yewell, Erik Adams and Jeff Adams.

 

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake.

 

Services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
