February 26, 1930 — March 11, 2024

Wharton

Evelyn Rogers Cochran, “MeeMee” went to be with the Lord Jesus on Monday, March 11, 2024. There to greet her, the love of her life, John Earl Cochran.

Evelyn was born February 26, 1930 in Houston, Texas to Helen Bigler Rogers and Samuel Lee Rogers. She attended Jefferson Davis High School and the University of Houston. She married John Earl Cochran in 1948, and together they made their home in Houston for five years before moving to Wharton, Texas in 1953. They bought an automobile agency and established the Cochran Motor Company, which they owned and operated for 38 years. Once retired the Cochrans spent time traveling and enjoying their family at gatherings in Glen Flora, at their little farm, and at their home.

The highlight of Evelyn’s life were their three wonderful children whom they cherished dearly, Kathleen Cline, Frank Cochran and wife, Lisa, and Sara Anne Wind and her late husband, Larry.

Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved the fellowship of her Sunday School class and was active in until her death. She worked as a hospital volunteer for Gulf Coast Medical Hospital for 38 years. She served on the Texas Board of Hospital Auxiliary for 27 years. In her earlier days, Evelyn served as a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years.

Preceding her in death were husband, John Earl Cochran, grandson, John Earl Cochran II, “Jay,” and son-in-law, Larry Wind. Also preceding her in death were her parents, and her four brothers, Howard, Donald, Curtis, and Richard, and her two sisters, Beverly and Louise. Survivors include her precious children and grandchildren, Sarah Wilkins and husband, Burke, Robert Cline, Jr., Laura Starks and husband, Stormy, John Wind and wife, Sara Beth, Christie Taylor and husband, Stuart. Great grandchildren Emily Wilkins and husband, Vlad Mazuryan, Jack Wilkins and fiance, Lauren Wells, Madeline and Andrew Wind, Julieanne, Ty, Victoria and Katherine Taylor, and Katherine Cline. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Divin, her nephew, Michael Divin and his wife, Kristi, and niece, Lynda Duyka and her husband, Larry, along with countless extended family members and dear friends.

Evelyn lived her life as the matriarch of her family. She loved living in Wharton and had a wonderful life surrounded by family and friends, people she truly loved. She lived her life close to the Lord and spent her time taking care of, cooking, and tending to her loved ones. She served her life as a faithful servant and has left her mark on those she loved.
