Eugene Raymond Ganske

Eugene Raymond Ganske, 99, of Boling, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 26, 2024. Eugene was born on July 4, 1924, on Cottonwood Creek in Fort Bend County to Eugene Richard Ganske and Frances H. Bialas Ganske. Eugene (also known as Gene and Peepaw) was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Urner Ganske, his sisters Hildegard Farmer and Rose Moore, and his brother George Ganske. Eugene is survived by his son Melvin and wife Sheryl Ganske of Boling, and granddaughters Lauren Rae Seiler and Sierra Mae Ganske. Eugene was raised around the San Bernard River bottom, and attended school in Needville, Burr, Iago and Boling. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corp, trained as a Scout and Sniper, and then served as a loader on a 90 mm anti-aircraft gun. As part of the 1stMarine Division 5th Regiment, he made a beach head landing at Okinawa on Easter, 1945. After the war was over, he was sent to China. Eugene came back home, married Dorothy, worked for Texas Gulf Sulfur and retired in 1982. His hobbies included raising and breaking quarter horses, farming and working on old tractors. He was also heavily involved in his church life, leading bible studies and serving in church leadership. After Melvin was born, Gene coached many baseball teams, and passed on his love of the outdoors, hunting and ranching to his son. Then through his granddaughters, sports and softball become a big part of his life. Eugene was always ready to try new things, and often said how lucky he was to live in a changing world. Pallbearers are Ray Albert, Billy Bialas, Kenneth Chumchal, Jimmy Dinan, Jeffrey Mudd, and Luke Popp. Visitation is Monday, January 29, from 5-7 pm at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Services are Tuesday, January 30, at 11 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 325 N. East Ave, Wharton, followed by a lunch reception. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 325 N. East Ave, Wharton, Texas 77488.
