Ervin M. Kucera, age 93, of Wharton, Texas passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in Needville. He was born on July 30, 1932, in Fort Bend County to the late Martin and Mary Macha Kucera.

Ervin was raised in Hungerford and attended Muldoon School. He remembers riding the wooden bus to school. It had a top on it like a shell, so they nicknamed it the Turtle Bus. Following school, he was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany, he returned in 1955 and was discharged in 1961. He met Dorothy Kosik while attending school and they were married on August 26, 1953. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2004. Ervin helped farm cotton and corn and doing odds and ends for money. He started working for Wharton County. He started working as a carpenter and later a ginner for Hungerford Gin. In 1962 the family adopted Ervin A Kucera and in 1965, added Denice. After moving to Wharton, he began working for Spraugh and Carlton Furniture known as National Furniture until it closed. He then worked at Boettcher Hlavinka Tractor as a mechanic for serval years. Finally working for Wharton ISD for 18 years before retiring as head of maintenance. Ervin enjoyed camping, traveling, polka dancing, a good game of dominoes, gardening and tending his pecan trees. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Denice Malota, and sister, Rosalie Kirk.

He is survived by his son, Ervin “Bo” Kucera and wife, Krista Spano of Wharton, sisters, Georgia Williams of Houston and Margaret Hayes of Eagle Lake, granddaughters, Katie Garza and husband, Roy and Ashley Spano-Reitz and husband, Kevin, great grandchildren, Alyx, Jake, Roy, Jasper and Brooklyn, and Scooter, his furbaby, and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at St John Catholic Church starting at 9:00 a.m. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Father Charles Dwomoh officiating. A Rite of Committal and Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St John Catholic Church or the Wharton County Junior College Senior Citizens Program.
