Elmer Henry Zimmerman, 100, passed away peacefully at his home in Boling on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.  He was born on April 22, 1923, in Falls City, Nebraska, to the late Henry Albert and Elizabeth Willich Zimmerman.

 

He served our country proudly in the United States Army during World War II in both Europe and the Philippines, rising to the rank of TSgt prior to his honorable discharge in 1946.  He married Willadeen Jones on May 13, 1944.  She preceded him in death on February 12, 2001.  Elmer was raised in Kansas, but loved the Boling area and worked many jobs there over his lifetime.  He was a farmer, driller with Texasgulf Sulphur, and finally owned and operated Zimmerman Electric.  Elmer was a life-long Lutheran and family man who loved his four boys and their wives, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren.

 

Elmer will be missed by his sons, David Lee Zimmerman and wife Mona of Houston, Kenneth Albert Zimmerman and Bianca Vela Collins of Boling, and Glenn William Zimmerman and wife Maggie of Boling; daughter-in-law Lisa Zimmerman of West Columbia;  grandchildren Paul, Jessica, April, Cody, Jeannie, William, Stephanie, Thomas, Karl, Henry, Kevin, Elisa and Savannah; and great grandchildren Lucy, Emily, Kate, Max, Willa, Cameron, Norah, Theodore, Layla, Hillarie, Khloie, Skylar, Lyla, Kaylee, Zoey, James, Forrest, Levi, Braydon and Jasper; and his brother Dale Zimmerman and wife Katie.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, Elmer was preceded in death by his son Steven Zimmerman, and his brothers Irvin and Claude Zimmerman. 

 

Following cremation, funeral services will be held on Friday March 8, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wharton.  Burial will follow in  Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton under the auspices of the Wharton American Legion Post 87 and members of the Wharton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4474.  Visitation with the family and a luncheon will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Parish Hall.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home of Wharton.  Condolences for the family can be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
