Elida Moreno Avila August 15, 1945 - February 18, 2024 Elida Avila, age 78, of Wharton passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024, in a Richmond hospital following a sudden illness. Elida was born on August 15, 1945, in Egypt, TX to the late Antonio and Rafaela Aleman Moreno. Elida was raised in Egypt and attended Hungerford School. She married Catarino Avila. He preceded her in death on in December 2000. Elida worked at Leedo Cabinetry in El Campo for many years. She enjoyed Bingo, scratch off tickets, tending her plants, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her 5 siblings, son, Catarino Avila, Jr. and daughter, Beatrice Avila. Elida is survived by her sons, Frankie Avila of Wharton, and Simon Avila and wife, Janie of Spanish Camp, daughter, Patricia Samaniego and husband, Manuel of Fort Worth, brother, Sylvester Moreno, Sr of Fort Worth, grandchildren, Lina Hernandez, Christopher Avila, Stacey Avila, Michael Samaniego, Alexandra Avila, Michaela Avila, Crystal Avila, Simon Avila, Jr., Jonathan Avila, Samantha Bishop, Stephan Avila, Raul Avila and Carlos Avila, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, along with numerous brothers in law and sisters in laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024, starting at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Mass will be Celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton, Tx. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
