Doris D Thomas

Doris D. Thomas, 90, of Wharton and formerly of the Magnet area, passed away on Wednesday February 20, 2019 at Elm Croft Senior Living in Wharton.  She was born on March 16, 1928, in El Campo Texas to the late Rufus Howard and Viola Mae Brown Dillard.

Doris was raised in the Dikesberg, Texas area and attended school there. On February 19, 1946, she married Melvin J. (Pete) Thomas in Lane City. It was then she became a farmers’ wife. Helping him with chores around the farm, running for supplies, tending her vegetable garden, cooking three meals a day, sewing clothes, and raising the growing family. Doris and Pete were founding members of Magnet Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Pete and son Ronnie Miller.

She is survived by her son, Tommy Thomas and wife, Lanette of Wharton, Grandchildren, Jennifer Linton and husband Jason, Ryan S Thomas and Morgan Janise and husband, Justin and great grandchildren, Taylor Linton, Easton Thomas and Taityn Thomas.

Visitation will start at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019 with the Funeral services starting at 3:00 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Laura Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Wharton Cemetery.
