Delores Lee Rutowsky

August 14, 1930 — June 5, 2024

Rosenberg

On the morning of June 5, 2024, Delores Lee Thompson Rutowsky, of Rosenberg, Texas, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side.

Delores was born on August 14, 1930, to Paul Ordis and Hazel Hortense Thompson in Houston, Texas. She was the only child in a family filled with aunts, uncles, and cousins. She graduated from Lamar High School in Rosenberg, Texas. She attended the University of Houston, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education. Her thirst for knowledge led her to gain a Masters in ESL. She taught briefly in Alief ISD and soon joined Houston ISD, where she taught 2nd grade for 37 years. Her dedication to education and her impact on her students’ lives are truly inspiring.

She married John Stanley Rutowsky in December 1952 and lived in Houston for 42 years before moving to Rosenberg, Texas, to be closer to their daughter and her family until she passed.

Delores’ friendships encompassed many aspects of life. Each was very special to her. Throughout her life, she developed many lifelong friends that have since passed. She made phone calls to chat with friends and colleagues, played bridge and bunko, and traveled near and far with good friends and family.

She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, the Houston Real Estate Association, and the Retired Teachers Association of Fort Bend County.

She loved her family, especially her grandsons, Greg, Scott, and Mark. She would keep them every chance she had and loved traveling with them.

Delores had a remarkable life filled with love, generosity, and wonderful experiences.

She is survived by her daughter, Caryn Arnim (husband Bubba), grandsons Greg (Leah), Scott (Lynn), and Mark (Holly) Arnim, and great-grandchildren Blane, Dane, Kinley, Elliott, Brooks Arnim, and Brynn Hamilton.

Our sincerest gratitude to Ignite Health & Resort for her rehab, Matagorda Nursing & Rehabilitation, Matagorda General Hospital, and Angels Care Hospice of Bay City, Texas.

If Delores could sum things up, she would express her gratitude for a long, full life full of wonderful experiences, a loving family, many good friends throughout the years, and being thankful for her compassionate caregivers. She embodied a life lived well.

The family will be celebrating her life on her 94th birthday, August 14, 2024, from 2-4 pm, at The Stables on The Brazos, Fulshear, Texas, which will surely bring together beautiful memories and stories of her legacy. Please reply to rsvpdrutowsky@gmail.com if you plan on attending.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Angels Care Hospice of Bay City, Texas, or St. Judes Children’s Hospital are appreciated.
