Clara Jean Kutach
Clara Jean Kutach, age 87, of Wharton, Texas, passed away on June 30, 2026, at a Wharton care center, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on October 5, 1938, in Hungerford, Texas, to the late Adolf and Ludmilla Muniza Sabrsula.
Clara was raised in the Hungerford area and attended Hungerford and Boling schools. She married Adolph Kutach on November 25, 1956, in Wharton, and together they shared nearly 70 years of marriage.
Clara worked for a time at Duke & Ayers Department Store in Wharton before becoming a homemaker and farm manager. She always had a hearty meal ready when her family returned from the fields and stayed busy tending the garden, canning vegetables, and baking cakes, pies, kolaches, and strichla. No one ever left her kitchen hungry!
She enjoyed fishing, working puzzles, completing word searches, and making her daily pilgrimages to H-E-B and Walmart—just to see if she needed anything. Playing volleyball was one of her greatest passions, and she loved sharing that pastime with her family. She also generously donated her famous canned pickles and salsa to community auctions, where they were always favorites. Above all else, Clara treasured time spent with her family and took great joy in watching each generation grow and accomplish great things.
In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her siblings, Viola Kalina, Pauline Kalina, Lillie Kalina, Mary Anne Dorris, Betty Dry, Anton Sabrsula, Alfred Sabrsula, Paul Sabrsula, A.J. Sabrsula; and her grandson, Thomas Kutach.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Adolph Kutach; daughters, Kathy Andel and husband Danny, and Elizabeth Mach and husband Gary; sons, Darrel W. Kutach and wife Jeanine, and Tony Kutach and wife Clarice; sister, Tracey Howell; grandchildren, Amy Yeamans and husband Doug, Joshua Kutach and fiancée Angie Witherspoon, Jeanette Çelebi and husband Ulaş, Tami Glenn and husband Jacob, Lisa Kutach, Renae Davis and husband Keith, Stephanie Kutach, David Kutach and wife Maranda, and Douglas Mach; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Logan, Aaron, Evelyn, Kate, JJ, Rylee, Dawson, Dylan, Sadie, Hope, Harper, Lauren, Samuel, Salem, Weston, Emma, Axel, Kinley, Avery, Hadley, and one great-grandchild on the way; and one great-great-grandchild, Zaiden.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home, with a parish rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, with Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. After burial, a reception and dinner will be held at the Holy Family Life Center.
