Bonnie Wishert, age 93, of Wharton, Texas passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026, at her home in Wharton. She was born on May 18, 1933, in Cedardale, Oklahoma, to the late Oscar and Inez Sharkey Powders.
Bonnie was the seventh of eight children. Bonnie was raised in Oklahoma and California but most of her youth was spent in Oklahoma. While living with her sister she met and fell in love with Pete Wishert while she was working as a car hop. They married on November 2, 1951, in Pawhuska Oklahoma. Bonnie and Pete soon relocated the family to Texas where Pete worked for Texas Gulf Sulfur Company until his retirement.
Bonnie was a homemaker to the extreme, loving working in her vegetable and flower gardens, sewing clothes for her daughters and later grandchildren - there wasn’t a Halloween costume she couldn’t figure out how to make. She was a member of a 42 club in Caney Grove over twenty years, belonged to The Lunch Bunch women for almost forty years, loved playing and competing in tennis until she and Pete started square dancing in clubs. She also loved playing bridge and Mahjong - she was even teaching a class on Mahjong on Fridays at her home. She was a woman that was always on the go, giving her best to her family and her church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Cleo Powders and wife Laudry, Archie Powders and wife, Wilma Jean, Max Powders and wife, Betty, Johnnie Powders, Troy Powders, Leota Reed and husband, Hershal and Faye Fox and husband, Leland, her daughter, Vanessa Ann Wishert and grandson, Adam Matula.
She is survived by her daughters, Dottie Matula and husband, Rick of Wharton and Janine Skinner and husband, Cary of Austin, brother-in-law, Bubba Wishert and wife Joyce and her grandchildren, James Skinner, Zachary Skinner and Jessica Matula and husband, Taylor Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Wharton with visitation at 10am and service at 11am with Bro. Tony Wishert officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a meal and visitation at the Fellowship Hall at the church immediately following.
