Wharton

Barbara Jane Perrigue, age 74, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 12, 2025, with dignity, following a long and courageous battle with Frontotemporal and Vascular Dementia. She was born on January 3, 1951, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Joseph and Martha (Sprowl) Shockome.

Barbara was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Throughout her life, she was defined by her unwavering devotion to her family. She married her high school sweetheart, Carl, in 1967, and together they raised four children. Barbara selflessly dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker until her children were grown. She later worked as a secretary for the Corpus Christi State School, where she retired after ten years of service.

Barbara found joy in tending to her beautiful roses, reading novels, collecting antiques, loving on her cocker spaniels, and, most of all, traveling.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Martha Shockome; her beloved husband, Carl; and siblings Roseann Green, Sara Sumwalt, Dale Shockome, and Joseph “Joey” Shockome.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Carl Perrigue, Jr. and wife Amy, and their children Matthew, Hank, and Kristen; Sandra Chumchal and husband Kelly, and their children Hannah and Ralston; Thomas Perrigue and wife Krystal, and their son Landon; and Donnie Perrigue and wife Stephanie, and their children Madison, Makenna, Hunter, and Autumn. She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy DeLaGrange and Mary Ivey; her brother, Robert Shockome; one loving nephew, Floyd Green-Yandell; and great-grandchildren Mitchell, Joon, Juniper, Violet, and Owen.

Barbara cherished her family deeply and will be remembered for her loving spirit, generous heart, and enduring strength.
