Agnes Marie Sulak Zahn, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and cherished friend died peacefully on June 15, 2026, at Sodalis Assisted Living Center in Wharton at the age of 79. She was born on June 21, 1946, in East Bernard, Texas, to the late Leonard and Lillian Vaclavik Sulak.

Agnes was raised in the East Bernard area and attended East Bernard schools. She also helped on the family farm for many years. On June 12, 1966, she married Ludy Zahn. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2020. Agnes was a babysitter to many children along with raising her two sons before beginning her first career as a teller at Security Bank & Trust in Wharton, and then worked as a clerk in the District Clerk Office for Wharton County for many years before retiring. Agnes was a lady who enjoyed cleaning her house, tending to her vegetable garden, mowing her yard, going fishing, a good game of cards or dominoes with friends, going to Casinos, dancing, cooking, baking, working fundraisers and bazaars, helping at the church, and showering her grandchildren and great grandchildren with her love. Agnes helped with many baby showers and bridal showers and you could find her working at many weddings for family and friends. She loved to attend events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with her family. Agnes was also a Charter Member of the Catholic Daughters with 58 years of service.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law Gary Hundl and Sam Fordyce.

Agnes is survived by her sons; Richard Zahn and wife, Susan of Wharton and David Zahn and wife, Michele of El Campo, sisters, Bertha Sowa, and husband, Milton, Beatrice Wicke and husband, Kenneth, Gloria Hundl, Pat Fordyce, Geraldine Whitt and husband, John and Diana Dorris and husband, Robert, brother, Leonard (Sonny) Sulak, Jr and Thea Marcantel, grandchildren, Larry Kocurek and wife, Bonnie, Zoey Zahn and Leslie Zahn and great grandchildren, Kynlee and Kalli Kocurek, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sodalis Assisted Living Center for their care for the years that Agnes lived there and also a thank you to the Houston Hospice of El Campo for their wonderful care of Agnes in her final days of her life. These ladies are true “living Angels”.

In lieu of flowers or plants, donations can be made to St John Catholic Church Building Fund, Houston Hospice of El Campo, or Wharton County 4-H.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026, at St John Catholic Church in Hungerford at 8:30 AM, followed by a Catholic Daughters Rosary recited at 9:30 and the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal at 10:00 a.m. with Father Charles Dwomoh celebrating. Burial will follow at St John Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Larry Kocurek, Travis Hundl, Clayton Sowa, Jonathan Krenek, Travis Krenek and Matt Zahn
