Abel Ovalle

Abel Ovalle   Abel Ovalle, 76, of Wharton, TX passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born on March 14, 1942 in San Benito, a son of the late Mariano and Apolonia Gallegos Ovalle.  Abel was raised in the San Benito and Hungerford area and attended San Benito and later, Hungerford schools. He worked for Texasgulf Sulphur for 35 years. On December 23, 1968, he married Patsy Cisneros in Wharton.  Together Abel and Patsy owned A&O Cement and Ellavo Co LLC  in Wharton for many years. Abel enjoyed listening to Conjunto music, football games, and traveling to the Casino to try his luck at the slots. He spent his playing the stock market. Outside of spending time with his children and grandchildren, he cherished his travels to Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle. Abel was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arturo Oballe and sister, Amelia Salazar. Abel is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Patsy Ovalle of Wharton, daughter, Cindy Hernandez and husband, Rene of Wharton, sons, Mariano Ovalle and wife, Rhonda of Pearland and Jaime Ovalle and wife, Shannon of Katy, sisters, Aurora Bergara and husband, Rey, and Alicia Rodriguez and husband, Jerry all of Wharton, grandchildren, Andrew Hernandez  , Rebecca Hernandez, Apolonia “Nia” Hernandez, Matthew Ovalle, James Ovalle and Mackenzie Hooper.  Great grandchildren, Evelyn and Gwynn Hernandez. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive.             Visitation will begin on Friday, September 28, 2018 after 5pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass and Rite of Comital will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Antonio Perez celebrating . Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Hernandez, Daniel Oballe, J.C. Rodriguez, Robert Salazar, Ezequiel Cisneros and Chad Guillory. Memorial contributions can be made to The Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle, 400 San Juan Road, San Juan, Texas 78589.     Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.  Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
